Installing a Prefabricated Teak Deck

  • Take deck out of box and dry fit.
  • Begin prep work, start at the bow, at the hatch
  • Lift up one piece of deck at a time
  • Wash fiberglass with acetone and clean away any dirt
  • Tape off all edges with blue tape
  • Spread epoxy on bottom of teak (to groove thickness on bottom of trowel)
  • Lay epoxied deck pieces carefully in place
  • Wipe away any excess epoxy immediately
  • Anchor down deck with water filled buckets every foot
  • Repeat steps 1 - 9 until bow is complete. Then repeat on next section working towards the stern.
  • Final sanding of taped seams, start at the bow and work towards stern.
  • All sanding should be complete, start cleaning all epoxy, caulking or imperfections from bow to stern
  • Clean up is complete, start detail seaming in cabin side and edge of deck. One person tape and the other person seam. One team of two on each starboard and port sides. Pull up all tape when complete.
  • Final check for detailing and clean up.
